Best US Business Credit Cards for Non-Resident LLC Owners (2026)

A $10k/mo ad spender leaving an AMEX Business Gold for a EU debit card is throwing away $4,800+/yr in points value. I've personally held 11 US business cards on a non-resident profile and helped 50+ founders get approved. Here's the exact ladder, the cards that actually approve ITIN holders, and the math on which annual fees pay back.

The Three Phases of the Card Ladder

Every non-resident profile I've built follows the same three-phase ladder. There are no shortcuts. Try to jump straight to AMEX Platinum without history and you'll get denied for "insufficient credit file."

Phase 1 (months 0–6): Secured cards. You put down a deposit, the issuer reports payments to all 3 bureaus, your FICO file gets born.

Phase 2 (months 6–12): First unsecured business cards. FICO around 660–720. Limits $2k–$10k. Real cashback starts here.

Phase 3 (months 12–24): Premium and charge cards. FICO 740+. This is where $4k–$6k in sign-up bonuses become normal and the combined credit line crosses $100k.

The whole thing takes 16–24 months if you don't skip steps. I've seen founders try to compress it into 6 months by stacking 8 applications at once. It fails every single time because Chase's 5/24 rule and AMEX's lifetime bonus rule punish you for being in a hurry.

Phase 1: Best Secured Cards for ITIN Holders (Month 0)

The goal in Phase 1 is one thing: get a US tradeline reporting on time, every month, for 6 months. Pick one of the cards below, fund the minimum deposit, and use it for $50–$200 of small purchases monthly.

Card Annual fee Min deposit Reports to Graduation
Capital One Platinum Secured $0 $49 / $99 / $200 All 3 personal bureaus 6–12 months
Bank of America Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards Secured $0 $1,000 3 personal + 2 business 12 months on-time
Discover it Secured $0 $200 All 3 personal Automatic review at month 7
Self Visa Credit Builder $25/yr $25/mo loan All 3 personal After loan completes
Valley Secured Business Visa $0–$25 Equal to limit Business bureaus Manual review

My recommendation: Capital One Platinum Secured. The $49 minimum deposit is the lowest in the market, Capital One is the most ITIN-friendly major issuer, and it graduates to unsecured cleanly. I open this for every founder I work with on Day 1 of their US setup.

Open Discover it Secured in parallel if you can spare another $200. Two tradelines reporting is meaningfully better than one for FICO scoring weight, and Discover graduates automatically at month 7.

Phase 2: First Unsecured Business Cards (Month 6)

By month 6, with two secured cards reporting clean payments, your FICO should be sitting in the 680–720 band. Now you start applying for real business cards with real limits and real rewards.

Card Annual fee Starting limit Best for
Chase Ink Business Cash $0 $3,000–$10,000 5% on office supplies/internet ($25k cap)
AMEX Blue Business Plus $0 $3,000–$8,000 2x MR on first $50k/yr (everything)
Chase Ink Business Unlimited $0 $3,000–$10,000 1.5% flat cashback
Capital One Spark Cash Select $0 $2,000–$5,000 1.5% flat cashback, ITIN-friendly
Capital One Spark Miles Select $0 $2,000–$5,000 1.5x miles

My recommendation: Chase Ink Business Cash + AMEX Blue Business Plus. This combo gives you 5% on internet/office supplies, 2x MR points on everything else up to $50k, and zero annual fees. Total real earn on $5k/mo of normal business spend: roughly $1,400/yr in cashback equivalent.

Apply for Chase FIRST. The 5/24 rule means every Capital One or AMEX personal card you've opened in the past 24 months counts against you when Chase looks at your application. If you have a thin file with one secured card, you're at 1/24 and Chase will approve. If you wait and stack four more cards first, you're at 5/24 and Chase auto-denies.

Phase 3: Premium Business Cards (Month 12–18)

FICO 740+. Combined limits already at $15k–$30k. Sign-up bonuses now worth $2,000–$6,000 each. This is where the real money lives.

Card Annual fee Limit at 12 mo Sign-up bonus (June 2026)
AMEX Business Platinum $695 $20,000+ (NPSL) 300,000 MR after $20k/3mo (~$6,000)
Chase Ink Business Preferred $95 $5,000–$25,000 100,000 UR after $8k/3mo (~$2,000)
Chase Ink Business Premier $195 $10,000+ (charge) 100,000 UR + 2.5% on $5k+ purchases
AMEX Business Gold $375 $10,000+ 100,000–150,000 MR after $15k/3mo
Capital One Venture X Business $395 $10,000+ 150,000 miles (75k+75k tiered)
Capital One Spark Cash Plus $150 (refundable) No preset (charge) $2,000 after $30k/3mo

The Spark Cash Plus $150 annual fee gets refunded if you hit $150k in annual spend. For any founder running ads or paying contractors through the card, that refund is automatic. Effectively a $0 charge card with 2% flat back and no preset limit.

Best for Ad Spend (Founders Burning $10k+/mo on Meta/Google)

This is the category where annual fees pay for themselves the fastest. If you're running paid acquisition, you can't afford to leave 4x earn on the table.

Card Multiplier on ad spend Annual fee Yearly earn on $120k ad spend
AMEX Business Gold 4x top 2 of 6 categories (digital media included) $375 480,000 MR (~$9,600 at 2¢/pt)
Chase Ink Business Preferred 3x on online ads (first $150k/yr) $95 360,000 UR (~$7,200 at 2¢/pt)
Capital One Venture X Business 2x on everything $395 240,000 miles (~$4,800)

My pick at $10k/mo ad spend: AMEX Business Gold. The 4x category cap is $150k/yr, which covers up to $12.5k/mo. After that, anything above the cap moves to a flat 1x and you should overflow onto the Chase Ink Preferred or Venture X Business.

Real-world math on $10k/mo Meta + Google = $120k/yr ad spend: AMEX Gold returns 480k MR worth roughly $9,600 redeemed through transfer partners. Minus the $375 annual fee, that's $9,225 in net value. The Chase Ink Preferred returns 360k UR worth roughly $7,200 minus $95 fee = $7,105 net.

Gold wins on raw earn, but Chase wins on points flexibility (UR transfers to United, Hyatt, Aeroplan). Hold both if you can.

Best for Travel (Business-Class Redemptions)

If you're flying Europe to the Americas at least twice a year, the math on premium travel cards changes completely. A round-trip business-class flight LHR to JFK retails for $4,500–$8,000. The same seat costs 60,000 Aeroplan miles one-way through Lufthansa or United, which you can generate from Chase Ink Preferred or AMEX Business Platinum sign-ups in a single quarter.

AMEX Business Platinum ($695/yr): 5x on flights booked direct or via AMEX Travel, 1,550+ lounges via Centurion + Priority Pass, $200 airline credit, $189 CLEAR credit. The fee is heavy but the lounge access alone is worth $400+/yr for frequent flyers.

Capital One Venture X Business ($395/yr): 10x on hotels via Capital One Travel, 5x on flights via Capital One Travel, transfers to 15+ airline partners. Priority Pass included. Best mid-tier travel card.

Best transfer partner sweet spots for EU → Americas business class:

Opinion: AMEX Platinum is overkill if you don't actually fly business class. The $695 fee doesn't pay back through casual airport lounge visits and Marriott Gold status. Get the Chase Ink Preferred at $95 instead and put the $600 difference toward an actual ticket.

Best Cashback (Founder Doesn't Travel)

If you're a SaaS founder who's never going to redeem points for business-class flights and just wants money back in the bank, skip the premium ecosystem entirely.

Capital One Spark Cash Plus ($150 AF, refunded at $150k spend): Flat 2% on everything. No preset spending limit. The Spark Cash Plus is what I tell every cashback-focused founder to get the day they hit FICO 720. On $200k in annual spend, that's $4,000 cash back minus a refunded fee = $4,000 net. Simple.

Backup: Chase Ink Business Unlimited at $0 AF, 1.5% flat. If your spend is under $100k/yr the gap to Spark Cash Plus isn't big enough to bother with the application.

Best for ITIN Holders With Zero History

Capital One is the most ITIN-friendly major issuer. Their underwriting accepts ITIN as an SSN substitute and they don't require existing US credit history for entry-level products.

The exact sequence I run for ITIN-only founders:

  1. Month 0: Capital One Platinum Secured ($49 deposit). Get the file started.
  2. Month 0 (parallel): Bank of America Business Advantage Secured if you have $1k spare, OR Firstcard (fintech built for ITIN).
  3. Month 3: Capital One Quicksilver Secured. Second Capital One tradeline.
  4. Month 6: Capital One Spark Classic for Business. First unsecured business card.
  5. Month 9–12: Capital One Spark Cash Select OR Chase Ink Business Cash if 5/24 allows.

AMEX accepts ITIN too, but they want at least one other US tradeline reporting before they'll approve. Don't waste an AMEX application on month 1, you'll burn the lifetime bonus on the first card you try.

Current June 2026 Sign-Up Bonuses

Card Bonus Spend req Approx value
AMEX Business Platinum 300,000 MR $20k / 3 mo ~$6,000
AMEX Business Gold 100k–150k MR $15k / 3 mo ~$2,000–$3,000
Chase Ink Business Preferred 100,000 UR $8k / 3 mo ~$2,000
Chase Ink Business Cash $750 $6k / 3 mo $750
Chase Ink Business Unlimited $750 $6k / 3 mo $750
Capital One Venture X Business 150,000 miles $30k / 6 mo ~$3,000
Capital One Spark Cash Plus $2,000 $30k / 3 mo $2,000

Bonuses move. Doctor of Credit tracks the current elevated offers and historical highs. Don't apply for AMEX Business Platinum at 150k when the 300k offer is live, you cannot rematch and the lifetime rule blocks you from applying again.

Hard Pull Strategy: 5/24, 1-in-5, 2-in-30 Rules

Every major issuer has unwritten rules about how often you can apply. Break them and you get auto-denied even with a 780 FICO. Here's what each issuer enforces:

Issuer Rule What it means
Chase 5/24 Auto-deny if 5+ personal cards opened in past 24 months (business cards don't count toward, but still need to be under to qualify)
AMEX 1 in 5 / 2 in 90 1 welcome bonus per card per lifetime; max 2 AMEX cards in 90 days
Capital One 2 in 30 / ~3 total Max 2 applications per 30 days; portfolio cap around 3 personal cards

Best practical cadence: one new card every 3 months, rotated across different issuers. Each hard pull costs you ~5 FICO points and recovers in 3–6 months. Five pulls in 12 months and you trigger the "credit hungry" flag and lose 15–40 points on top.

Application order I run for every founder: Chase first (because 5/24), then Capital One (because portfolio cap), then AMEX (because lifetime bonus rule means you want maximum bonuses, not many cards).

My Personal Stack (8 Years In)

For full disclosure, here's what I actually carry today after 8 years of building this profile from a Czech passport and zero US footprint:

That's 5 cards. Combined limit is north of $180k. Annual fees total $1,260. Annual rewards earned net of fees ran $14,200 last year on roughly $240k of business spend. The Mercury debit card alternative would have returned $0.

I deliberately don't carry Venture X Business. The Capital One travel portal is weaker than Chase or AMEX, and I already have lounge access through Platinum. One premium travel card is enough.

When This Doesn't Apply

The credit card ladder is broken if any of these are true for you:

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get an AMEX business card with an ITIN?

Yes. AMEX accepts ITIN as an SSN substitute on most products. Easiest entry is the Blue Business Plus (no annual fee). I usually wait until month 9 or 12 of US credit history before applying, because AMEX wants to see at least one other US tradeline reporting clean.

What is the best first business card with $0 annual fee?

Chase Ink Business Cash. 5% back on office supplies and internet/phone/cable up to $25,000 per year, $750 sign-up bonus after $6k spend in 3 months, and zero annual fee. If you can't get Chase yet (5/24 issue or thin file), Capital One Spark Cash Select at 1.5% flat is the fallback.

How does Chase 5/24 actually work?

Chase auto-denies any application if you've opened 5 or more personal credit cards from any issuer in the past 24 months. Business cards from Chase (Ink line) don't count against the 5/24 limit, but you still need to be under 5/24 to get approved for them. Apply for Chase Ink cards FIRST, before stacking AMEX or Capital One personal cards.

Does the authorized user fast track really work?

Yes, for thin files. Adding to a family member's aged card (10+ years old, $20k+ limit, under 5% utilization, perfect payment history) adds 30 to 45 FICO points within 60 days. Confirm the issuer reports authorized users to all 3 bureaus before bothering. Chase, AMEX, and Bank of America all report. Capital One reports inconsistently.

Are premium business cards with annual fees worth it?

Depends on spend. AMEX Business Gold at $375/yr breaks even at roughly $2,500/mo in 4x category spend. AMEX Business Platinum at $695/yr only makes sense if you actually use the lounge access, $200 airline credit, and $189 CLEAR credit. If you don't travel, the Platinum is overkill. Get Chase Ink Preferred at $95/yr instead.
