What does Mercury require from a non-resident founder?
Short answer
An EIN for the LLC and a valid passport for the beneficial owners. No SSN, no ITIN, and no trip to the US. The application is entirely online and most non-residents complete it remotely. Applications stall on mismatched details far more often than on anything to do with nationality.
What it does not ask for
A Social Security Number and an ITIN are both outside the requirement. An ITIN becomes useful later for personal tax matters, but the bank account runs on the entity.
Where applications go wrong
Details that do not line up across the formation documents, the EIN letter and the application. Consistency matters more than any single document.
