Best US bank account for non residents
The best US bank account for non residents is whichever one will actually open for someone resident where you live. That sounds like a dodge and it is the most useful sentence on this page: the providers differ far less on features than they do on which countries they serve, and that list changes without announcement.

Best US bank account for non residents: the two kinds
- Fintech accounts built for exactly this — remote onboarding, no US visit, quick once the EIN exists. Balances usually sit at partner banks, which is worth understanding for deposit insurance.
- Traditional banks, which give you a relationship and sometimes a better answer at scale — and which frequently want a non-resident owner to appear in person.
Most founders should open a fintech account first because it unblocks invoicing, and revisit the traditional question when the business needs it.
What actually separates them
In rough order of how often it decides the outcome:
- Your country of residence. The first filter and the one nobody advertises. A provider that serves non-residents does not serve all of them.
- What the business does. Crypto, gambling, adult content and money services are excluded almost everywhere.
- USD only, or multi-currency.
- Wires, cards and API access — decisive for some businesses and irrelevant to most.
What the application decides on
Rejections are far more often about the file than the person. Reviewers are answering three questions: what do you sell, who pays you, does the money flow make sense.
- Formation certificate in the exact legal name.
- EIN confirmation — the CP 575, or a 147C letter.
- Signed operating agreement, including for single-member companies.
- Passport for every owner at 25% or above.
- Proof of residential address, generally dated within 90 days.
- A two-sentence business description naming the product, the customers and how they pay. "Consulting" reads as evasive. Specific reads as real.

What nobody can promise you
- No one can guarantee approval. The institution decides. A provider promising an account is describing an application.
- An account is not a guarantee of keeping it. Accounts get closed when activity does not match what was described at opening.
- No account makes you tax resident in the US, and none removes an obligation at home.
The order that saves you a rejection
Company, then EIN, then address and agent in place, then the application — with the documents checked against each other first. A name reading "Northbound Studio LLC" on the state certificate and "Northbound Studios LLC" on the EIN letter stalls an application, and fixing an EIN name mismatch afterwards is slow.
A first rejection is harder to reverse at the same institution than to avoid, which is the whole argument for getting the file right before you send it.
Common questions
Can I open a US business account without visiting?
With a fintech account, generally yes. With a traditional bank, often not — that is the main practical difference between them.
Do I need an ITIN?
Not for a business account. The EIN is the company's number and is what the application asks for. An ITIN is personal, and matters for personal filings and personal credit.
What if I am declined?
Find out what failed, fix it, and apply elsewhere meanwhile. Business account decisions are not reported to a shared register the way consumer credit applications are, so one institution's answer does not follow you — what follows you is whatever caused it.
Which is best for someone in my country?
That is the call. The answer moves, and a page naming one provider would be wrong for most people reading it within a few months.
